I grew up in St. Croix County, and graduated from UW-Stout, Menomonie, WI. I worked in the private sector, most recently as an Environmental Compliance Specialist for a large manufacturer. As a lifelong Democrat, I felt the need to get more involved in the party after my recent retirement. I’ve lived in Taylor County about 35 years, and am concerned that the area is not being fully represented in Madison or Washington. This is in part due to our rural location, loss of local control, and badly gerrymandered voting districts. Taylor County Democrats are working extremely hard to connect with all voters, to build support for local progressive candidates, promote Democratic values, and hopefully contribute to a better future for all our citizens.
Jim moved to Wisconsin from Illinois. He is co-chair of our county party and believes that all citizens have a voice in political-decision making. Plus, Jim’s a devoted Packer fan.
As a Democrat, I believe in the power of the people. I grew up on a dairy farm and understand the value of hard work and how important preserving family farms is. Most of my life I worked in the public sector. I understand how valuable local government services are for county residents. I also understand how devastating Scott Walker’s Act 10 was. Scott Walker’s ‘divide and conquer’ strategy was to pit working Wisconsinites against each other to the benefit of wealthy special interests. As a party, we are focused on rural issues and are working hard to protect voting, reproductive, and healthcare rights, and the environment. We also need to protect Social Security (that is an earned benefit, not an entitlement) and Medicare. Reagan slashed the corporate tax rate from 70% to 28%, making corporations richer and started taxing Social Security income in his 1983 amendment.
